From left, we have ChioBu (HC), Joy (HC), Esther (HC), Sally (VJ), Dean (instructor), Feng (VJ), Qi (RJ), Tiong (NY), Kim (NJ), Mark (HC), Yvonne (SA)=D
Seriously lah, I look really off without specs man, not that I look on with one.. haha.
Anyways, today's the last day of HAP..=X Had breakfast with the bunch, as usual.
First stop: Kaki Bukit Centre (Prison School)
You won't believe how talented those inmates are. We were awe-stricken by how articulate and seemingly bright the tourguide (inmate) was--he's actually an overseas PHD holder in engineering, currently teaching A and C math, as DSP Ivy told us later on. Similarly, we got stunned too when the inmates showcased their multimedia productions to us. Our jaws dropped when, during the QnA, the VP elaborated that the peeps in there only spend a year to complete their O/A syllabus..! Then we started shaking our heads in disbelief cos the refreshment and lunch prepared by the inmates are simply better than anything else.
And I just couldn't help bursting into tears (like I'm the only one..!) when they showed this clip about imprisoned mums reuniting with their kids on mother's day. That's when I realised being a prison officer can be such a calling for me. They are really a noble, caring bunch.. haha. Eh, but seriously.
You know I was crying so badly that DSP Ivy came over to offer me a box of tissue lah. Kewl, now that I've left a rather positive impression on the Recruitment Head.. *sneakZ* cos she told me she cried too. Hahaz.. no lah.
SuiSen exchanged our gifts during lunch.. okies it was quite spastic, the way we did that. Mark was literally jumping up and down in excitement.. naturally that was his idea lah.. lol. Luckily Sally was happy with the custom-made 'sally mommy.. =)' keychain I got for her mann =P.
YupZ and my angel was Chio Bu..! Wait a minute, I thought I heard Kim's heart cracking.. ouuhhh that was loud! HAHALast and final place of visit: Cluster A at Changi
Came in close contact with the inmates at work in the laundry. Each of their faces seemed to suggest a regretful past...
Then we went up to their dorms to have a look.. and subsequently the Drama and Music group put up a performance for us at it's audi after a refreshment. They were so pro with the electric guitars and drums! Really impressive! The expressions of those inmates were very telling, I thought. They seemed to be anticipating the day when it comes for their release, with hope and confidence to face the real world. That made me feel very encouraged, really. You will too, if you were there.
Okies then it's time for the closing ceremony of the 6-day HAP. There was a certificate presentation followed by a last QnA, before everything wrapped up. Dinner was at Swensens. Topic for the night, mainly about scholarship stuff, if not then it was those really stupid games like murderer and black magic.
Oh yeah, seems like I haven't been mentioning our NANNY for the programme. It's partly because I don't really know how to spell her name lah, but now that I know.. She's Freda! She's so cute, so cool, so lame..!
This 6 days, I should say has made a very significant impact on my life. Not only have I become much more gungho through obs, I believe it has benefited me a lot, in that I've gained a very precious insight to make a more informed choice in my career in the future, as well as in terms of exposure, by getting to know and learn from a very different group of peers. In a way, they have made me regain my drive to study hard, or perhaps even harder this time.
